Where are we today, how did we get here, and where are we going? These are questions Professor Duchess Harris will address in her presentation as she talks about the historical institutions and laws that underpin today’s system and what police departments and the communities they serve are doing to improve communication and relationships. Harris is a professor of American Studies at Macalester College and a member of Governor Walz's Board of Public Defense. Harris is an expert on civil rights law, Black feminism, and African American political movements. Additionally, she has published several academic books about Contemporary African American History and Political Theory and 115 books for students in grades 4-12.
